Jakarta is the capital city of Indonesia. There are many interesting places that could be visited on this city. One of the most popular places on Jakarta is Istiqlal Mosque. Besides as tourist attraction, this place is also known as one of the most famous religious sites in Indonesia. This mosque was built to celebrate the Indonesia’s independence and also known as the largest mosque in Indonesia. The name itself, Istiqlal, means Independence in Arabic word.
Location: Istiqlal Mosque is located in Pintu Air Street, Central Jakarta. The mosque is also located not too far from several famous buildings such as Merdeka Square and Jakarta Cathedral.
Opening Day/Hour: Basically, the mosque opens everyday without specific visiting time. Since it used as religious site for Moslem in Jakarta, this place could be visited almost anytime to pray or any other religious activities. Some people even visit this mosque in nighttime to take a rest while they’re on their trip.
Entrance Fee: Like any other mosques, you don’t have to pay for entrance fee if you want to visit Istiqlal Mosque. However, you could leave some cash voluntary for maintenance costs. The amount of cash that you should leave is not specified since it’s voluntary.
Street Direction to Location: The mosque could be found easily on Pintu Air Street. The street could be accessed almost from any streets on Central Jakarta. You could use personal or chartered car to visit the mosque. You even could use public transportations such as taxi, buses or even ojek.
Do n Don’ts: You could take some pictures if you like but several areas might be forbidden though. One basic rule that you have to follow is that you need to take your shoes off if you want to enter the mosque. You also need to keep your voice down and be as polite as possible especially if there are people who are praying in the mosque. Do not smoke or drink alcohol during your visit since the place is a religious site.
