Gorontalo is the capital city of a province with the same name. It is situated in the northern part of Sulawesi Island of Indonesia, the 11th largest island in the world. The city of Gorontalo estimated existed since about 400 years ago and it is one of the oldest cities in Sulawesi island beside Makassar, Manado and Pare-pare. The area once under the influence of Portuguese and the Dutch. The remains of the European colonial still easily can be found in the city. Gorontalo reached the independence from the Dutch rule 1942.
