In London, Big Ben is really famous as one hot spot destination for every tourist who are visiting London or England, but do you know that Indonesia also has the famous and unique big clock? Yup that clock is called as Jam Gadang. So, how interesting is this place?
This place has been the symbol for the surround area that is why we can call it as the landmark of west Sumatra. The big clock in Jam Gadang becomes the time sign which will release the unique sound in certain time. We can find some uniqueness about this clock, for example the numeric of 4 which was written in Rome character. Usually “4: is written as IV, but not in Jam Gadang. “4” number is written as IIII in its clock. Next interesting thing about it is it was built without using any cement, but it is still strong until right now. It was made using the white egg, white sand, and camphor. Another thing which makes people love to visit this place is its design. Jam Gadang uses the traditional house of West Java as its main style. You also can see the whole city by climbing to Jam Gadang with permission surely because the upper location is restricted for public use.
How to get here? It is very easy because from Bukittinggi bus station, you just need to take a city trabsportation called angkot to this place. Maybe it is only Rp 2000. You can visit this place anytime because it opens every day, and you will not be charged since it is free for public. However, it is better to take you own car since the transportation in this place is limited only from 9 am to 5 pm only, so if you are late from those hours, you have to make a hotel reservation.
