In the Indonesian history, Makassar is quite highlighted, especially is about the heroic story of the Sultan Hasnudin when he and his people fought Dutch military at that time. Just like the other regions in Indonesia, Makassar was also ruled by the Dutch-Indie government, long way before Dutch came to Indonesia, Makassar was led by the kingdom, many kingdoms country in Indonesia back then, before the independence of Indonesia and as the one of those kingdoms was located in Makassar which was famous under the lead of Sultan Hasanudin. And after the coming of Dutch to Indonesia and created the Dutch-Indie government in Indonesia, all of the local kingdoms in Indonesia were ruled by Dutch-Indie government, and that made Sultan Hasanudin angry and rose the war with his fellow against Dutch-Indie because the Dutch military wanted to seized the kingdom power and the Dutch military did such a arbritary things to the people of South Sulawesi at that time of period. After the independence of Indonesia, and the bloom of Republic of Indonesia, many kingdoms joined to the Republic of Indonesia, one of those kingdoms is in Makassar. And which was famous under the lead of Sultan Hasanudin. And now, Makassar has become the capital city of Province of South Sulawesi that is famous with advance region in the east of Indonesia with its capital city of province, Makassar or former was called Ujung Pandang.

The cultural aspect in the Makassar is so many, because, there are three main ethnics that live in the Makassar. They are Bugis ethnic, Makassar ethnic, and Toraja Ethnic. They have their own culture. And the most popular and has gone to the international is Torajan’s culture. While from the architecture, the most popular is from Bugis, there is Bugis traditional house. While from Makassar ethnic, the most popular is the traditional song, for example like Ma Rencong-rencong, Pakarena, and Anging Mamiri.

The main International airport in South Sulawesi is Sultan Hasanudin Airport; the name was taken from famous South Sulawesi hero and once as king of Makassar kingdom who led people to rose war against Dutch, and it is located in 30km from the capital city province, Makassar. And if you want to go to the tourism spot in the Makassar, because of Makassar is an archipelago islands, you can go by boat to island by island.
