Demak is a city located in Central Java. Demak is a prefecture in the Province of Central Java, Indonesia. Demak is a strategic city located in the northern Java, which is famous by the beach and as the central of transportation, because of the location is strategic, Demak is passed by the main road in northern coast of Java that is why the economy in Demak is increasing every year. Demak is a city of prefecture of Demak which is near with the capital city of the Province o Central Java in Semarang.
Historically, Demak was a Kingdom region in the past, it was in 1478-1518 while Demak kingdom under the rule of Raden Patah King. Demak kingdom is an important kingdom at that time, because Demak kingdom held the influence of Islam religion spreader. Demak kingdom was the central of the Islam religion spreader at that time, and the famous characters of the Islam spreader in Java land were known as “Wali Songo” or Nine Guardians in English who spread Islam religion in every region of Java land and the Demak Palace was the meeting place for them.
The traditional culture of Demak is the same with the other Javanese culture in Central Java regions which are centered in Yogyakarta and Surakarta as the central of traditional Javanese culture for example like the daily behavior and manner to the language which has hierarchy in the oral language. Besides the root of Javanese culture, Demak also has the unique dances that are only available in Demak, those dances are Zippin Pesisiran and Barongan Singo Karya, and those dances are only performed in the certain ceremony, like carnival or other cultural ceremony like birthday and marriage party. Barongan Singo Karya dance is a mystique dance that allows the dancer to be possessed.
The interesting places in Demak to be visited are religious places like Demak Great Mosque, Sunan Kalijaga Grave and many more. Because of Demak is famous as the religious city, there are many old graves of the loyal and important persons in the past. Those graves are visited by many people especially in the certain month. Those visitors mostly are the pilgrims who want to have the spiritual experience. Besides the religious attraction in Demak, Morosari Beach is interesting to be visited. The distance from the airport is about 50 Km from Semarang, and can be reached by bus.
