Maybe rendang becomes a new thing which has been heard by some people in this world, but this food is not a new thing for Indonesian people. Rendang is an original recipe from West Sumatra. Basically rendang is made from 4 elements such as meat, karambia, lado and spicy. In the past, rendang was only made by Minangkabau people and it became a main dish which is served in some feasts that were attended by high class society only. Sometimes, it was served as main dish in religion holy day such as Eidl fitr or Eidl adha, but now it is served for all elements of people in all over Indonesia. Major people think that it is a dish from Padang in fact it is a dish of all minangkabau people.
It is so easy to get rendang in Indonesia. You can come to Sumatra for tasting the deep recipe of rendang, but you also can get it in every Padang restaurant which is spread in all over Indonesia. Padang restaurants are a kind of restaurants you can find in all Indonesia provinces. So, everywhere you go, you can easily find them.
If you want, you can make it by yourself. First prepare cow meat, chili, lemongrass, orange leaf and coconut milk. Don’t forget to pound the spicy which contains of red onion, garlic, ginger, turmeric, galangal, pepper, nutmeg seed, candle nut, sugar and salt. First dip cow meat with spicy for almost 1 hour. In the same time, cook coconut milk until it blows. Put coconut milk, meat and spicy altogether and put the lemongrass. Cook until the meat is soft and coconut milk dries out.
